We remember with profound reverence and gratitude the life of an extraordinary alumnus, Reverend Robert Joseph Bedard, affectionately known as Father Bob. A beacon of inspiration and a force for renewal, Father Bob left a lasting mark on all those fortunate enough to cross his path.

Father Bob's journey from St. Augustine's Seminary (Class of 1955 - largest ordination class in the history of St. Augustine’s Seminary) led him to become a driving force of renewal within the Church. His unwavering commitment to the Marian movement, combined with his exceptional skills as a speaker and teacher in matters of Church renewal and the priesthood, made him a sought-after guide in the journey of faith.

His dedication to the New Pentecost and the New Evangelization propelled him to extend himself wholeheartedly, even at the cost of his own health, to see the Catholic Church vibrant and alive in its devotion to Jesus Christ.

To the Companions of the Cross, the Servants of the Cross, and countless Lay Associates, Father Bob was not just a spiritual father but also a visionary who transmitted the mission of renewal deeply embedded in his heart. His legacy revolves around fostering renewal through a meaningful common life and spirituality, a testament to his dedication to the Church's transformation.

To many more, Father Bob was a gifted teacher, compassionate pastor, and fiery preacher who ignited hearts with his words. His personal touch and profound ability to speak words of affirmation and healing left a lasting impact on those he encountered.

Above all, Father Bob believed in the living presence of Jesus Christ. He passionately taught that Jesus is not a remote historical figure but the Risen Lord, actively engaged in our lives today. This belief drove him to share the treasure of an intimate, personal relationship with Christ, encouraging everyone to surrender fully to His will.

Father Bob's deep devotion to Mary, the model of surrender to Christ, was rooted in his unwavering faith. He exemplified surrender by saying, "Not ready, Lord, but willing," a phrase that resonated with his complete trust in God's guidance.

The Cross held a central place in Father Bob's life and ministry. He fervently proclaimed Christ Crucified as the Power and Wisdom of God, emphasizing that the Cross's transformative power is as relevant today as it was 2000 years ago.

Father Bob believed in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and the need for a New Pentecost. He urged all to receive the Holy Spirit's empowering gifts, recognizing the Holy Spirit's role in the Church's renewal and the mission of evangelization.

In his memory, we are called to continue the mission of renewal and surrender, echoing Father Bob's enduring message: "Give God permission." Through surrender to God's will and a deep relationship with Christ, we can truly become vessels of His infinite love to the world.

May Father Bob's legacy inspire us to seek renewal, embrace surrender, and live out the Gospel message with unwavering faith and love.

Rest in peace, Reverend Robert Joseph Bedard, and thank you for your profound impact on the Church and its faithful.
