Description of Talk: Maximus the Confessor is considered the architect of the Byzantine theological vision. His most creative thinking comes through conversation with Gregory Nazianzus, the subject of Maximus’ Ambigua. We will take a look at how Maximus reads Gregory’s classic Five Theological Orations and what the practice of Maximus’ commentary can teach us about reading the fathers today.
