The Law of Prayer and the Law of Belief in the Early Church

Formulating the axiom lex orandi, lex credendi, Prosper of Aquitaine, a follower of St. Augustine of Hippo, contributed to the early Church’s understanding of how a community’s liturgical practices shape and reflect their beliefs. Monsignor Feichtinger will investigate how much is entailed in this poignant formulation, how Prosper himself explains the axiom, and how we should look at the axiom today.

Msgr. Hans Feichtinger is a pastor of two parishes in Ottawa and teaches Patristic Theology and Ancient Philosophy at St. Augustine’s Seminary
