Lay Spiritual Formation: Suffering and the Gift of Human Life

St. Augustine’s Seminary opened its 2022-23 annual series of workshops and retreats for the laity on the feast of St. John Paul II, October 22, with a rich exploration of the saint’s reflections on the value of human life and the meaning of suffering. Led by Dr. Julia Palmieri, a sessional instructor for the Seminary who recently completed her graduate studies in moral theology at the John Paul II Institute at the Catholic University of America, our in-person and online participants were drawn into the Pope’s vision of the deep gift and sacredness of human life, a vision calling for a “contemplative outlook” to behold, and a vision somehow not negated but fully revealed on the Cross.

Future talks in the 2022-23 program will include a day for young adults on “The Cross at Work” – a collaboration with the Office of Catholic Youth – as well as a Lenten retreat on the theme of Catholic education.

St. Augustine’s Seminary’s Lay Spiritual Formation Program offers an annual series of workshops and retreats, open to the public, which aim to deepen the spiritual, intellectual, human, and pastoral formation of the laity.
