Coping With Ongoing Challenges Through Faith and Prayer

This past year has not been easy for anyone. The challenges, pain and suffering associated with COVID-19 have been felt around the world. St. Augustine’s is no different. Everyone has had to deal with these challenges in their own way. First-year-Theology seminarian Peter Bissonnette says it is faith and prayer that helps him through.

“One thing that I’ve noticed more over this past year is the power of prayer” says Bissonnette, who is studying for the Diocese of Peterborough. He says the fulsome COVID protocols that the Seminary has in place has meant more alone time, but he has grown spiritually through the experience.

“Obviously, God, the giver of all things, can answer your prayers. So, while being away from friends and family as different concerns arise, it is a beautiful gift to see the fruits of prayer made noticeable. It’s something that’s been more tangible to me this year, and has been a real part of my development.”

He says in a time where there is so much that you can’t control, he takes solace in knowing that he can “step back and give it to God. If you believe in God, then why wouldn’t you trust Him? He holds you in his hands.”
