Convocation 2022

Christ at the Heart of Education at St. Augustine’s Seminary

As St. Augustine’s Seminary honoured its new graduates at its Convocation Ceremony in the Chapel on November 7, 2022, there was one thing all graduates, regardless of discipline, had in common – they all grew in their personal relationship with Christ.

Brenelle D’Souza, a secondary math and science teacher who was presented her Master of Religious Education, addressed fellow graduates at the Convocation ceremony, saying each of them had made an “intentional choice” to prayerfully consider and answer a unique call to further their education and deepen their relationship with Christ through study at St. Augustine’s Seminary.

“The professors and program at St. Augustine’s have imparted a theological foundation that has been invaluable for my personal relationship with Christ. I chose St. Augustine’s because I trusted the professors and course resources selected to be intellectually stimulating, practically relevant and theologically accurate according to the Catholic faith, and my experience certainly fulfilled these expectations.”

The Rev. Adam Pantaleo addressed the Convocation on behalf of priests, while Deacon Nicholas Daunt gave the address on behalf of the Diaconate Formation class of 2022.

Fr. Pantaleo thanked the formation and academic faculty at St. Augustine’s for having “taught us that the foundation of our studies and our ministry as priests must be our faith in God. We had the privilege of attending your classes, learning from you, and most importantly, witnessing your love of God and the Church.”

Deacon Daunt summarized the journey at St. Augustine’s by saying: “to cut to the heart of it, what we learned most was what the love of Jesus looks like up close.”
