Lay Spiritual Formation: Shining with Joy for Their Maker

In our commitment to follow the Lord’s call to walk with him, we find people around and among us needing care and tending.

How can we be of service to others when we ourselves are suffering and confused and even lose our way at times?  In a world that seems so broken, what is asked of us?

In the church, we have a sure guide and what can sustain us in our mission today. Many of the fathers of the church described the church as a hospital for those who are afflicted and in need of healing.  During our day of reflection, we will look at the workings of care for the person, the anatomy of repentance, and the relationship between the poor and evangelization.  Our own patron St. Augustine, and other early-church theologians, worked from their historical context on such questions; some of their teachings will be considered in conversation with contemporary examples and understandings.

Our Maker is calling us; let’s take our posts, shining with joy like the stars (Baruch 3:34) and burning with the one flame, as it was at the church’s birth on Pentecost.
