Diploma in Philosophy
The Diploma in Philosophy, consisting of ten philosophy courses, will begin in September 2024. This two-semester Diploma is designed to fulfill the philosophy requirements outlined in Veritatis Gaudium for the study of theology. Courses will be offered in-person and synchronously online to allow students throughout Canada and internationally to benefit from these course offerings.
The Diploma in Philosophy is a non-conjoint program that will be granted by St. Augustine’s Seminary of Toronto, Pontifical Faculty of Theology.
The ten philosophy courses are:
1. Ancient Philosophy
2. Logic and the Philosophy of Language
3. Philosophical Anthropology
4. Philosophy of Nature and Natural Theology
5. Modern Philosophy
6. Contemporary Philosophy
7. Medieval/Scholastic Philosophy
8. Metaphysics
9. Epistemology/Philosophy of Knowledge
10. Moral and Political Philosophy
Admissions Requirements:
1. Academic Application with Letter of Intent and three Letters of Recommendation.
2. Bachelor’s degree or non-traditional applicant with an appropriate background.
3. Official Transcripts from all post-secondary institutions.
For those not in the ordination stream, this diploma program may be done on a part-time or full-time basis.
Cases that involve Advanced Standing, Shared Credits, or Transfer Credits are dealt with according to the regulations found in the SAS Bulletin, the SAS Website, and the TST Basic Degree Handbook.
Courses completed in the diploma program may be eligible for transfer to a degree program depending on the academic eligibility of the student and the grade received for the course. Please review article 11.9 of the TST Basic Degree Handbook which further explains the policy regarding grades earned in the 60-69 range. Courses receiving these grades are counted towards our diploma programs but are not transferable to a master’s level program.
