Pastoral ministry with a focus on spirituality, empathy and human formation development within seminary formation (emphasis on young adult development), pastoral counseling, urban and regional planning, and demographics (including impacts on seminary formation)

BIOGRAPHY

Fr. Scott Birchall was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Toronto in 2014.  After his ordination, he served as an associate pastor at Merciful Redeemer Parish in Mississauga.  In 2017, Fr. Birchall undertook his Doctor of Ministry studies at the Catholic University of America, with a focus on empathy development in Canadian English seminaries.  He completed his doctoral studies in 2021.  He currently serves as the Director of the Discipleship Stage (Serra House), Director of Pastoral Formation, Director of Field Placement and has been an Assistant Professor since 2021 lecturing in both the field education and the pastoral internship programs. 

In addition to his responsibilities at St. Augustine’s, Fr. Birchall provides ongoing weekend support to parishes within the Archdiocese of Toronto and has served on a number of committees within the Archdiocese including member of Vocation Council 2015-2018, Priest’s Under 5 Program 2017-2020, and Priest Council Clergy Representative 2017-2021 and 2024 - present.  He is the chair of the Archdiocese of Toronto Priest Retreat Committe (2021-present) and has been the chaplain for the Couples for Christ GTA (west) since 2022. He also serves on the Collegium for the University of St. Michael's College (2024-present).

He has also provided a number of talks and led prayer services throughout the Archdiocese of Toronto.
