New Seminary Appointments and Transitions

We are pleased to announce the following appointments at St. Augustine’s Seminary:

Rev. Michael Corpus, VICE-RECTOR

Fr. Corpus is returning to St. Augustine’s as its new Vice-Rector. Ordained in 2020, Fr. Corpus served as Associate Pastor at St. Joseph Parish in Mississauga for the past two years. In his new role as Vice-Rector, he will help with the formation of seminarians and with many aspects of seminary life. He is passionate about formation and serving the Seminary’s mission and is eager to place his talents at the service of God and the community.

Fr. Corpus obtained his S.T.B./M.Div. from St. Augustine’s Seminary and a Bachelor of Catholic Thought from St. Philip’s Seminary as well as a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Toronto.

Dr. Josephine Lombardi, ASSISTANT DEAN FOR ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

Dr. Josephine Lombardi has been appointed to the newly-created position of Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs. This position was created specifically to assist the Academic Dean, Fr. John Elmer Abad, in light of the approval by the Vatican’s Dicastery for Culture and Education to grant the Pontifical Licentiate of Sacred Theology.

Dr. Lombardi is a long-time valued member of the St. Augustine’s faculty. She is Associate Professor, Systematic and Pastoral Theology and, for the last 11 years, has been Director of Lay Spiritual Formation. She has been on the Academic Council at the Seminary since 2006 and served as Director of Field Education for 12 years. In 2021, Dr. Lombardi was seconded to the Toronto School of Theology (TST) to conduct a Feasibility Study on Second Entry Undergraduate Degrees. As a member of the TST Basic Degree Council, Dr. Lombardi will represent St. Augustine’s on the Basic Degree Curriculum Mapping Project.

Deacon David Quail, DIRECTOR DIACONATE FORMATION

St. Augustine’s is pleased to welcome Deacon David Quail as its new Director of Diaconate Formation. He was ordained to the Sacred Order of Deacons in 2016 after five years of formation at St. Augustine’s Seminary. Following his ordination, he and his wife of 43 years, Elisabeth, have enjoyed mentoring many diaconate couples during the various stages of formation.

He is assigned to St. Edward the Confessor Parish in Toronto and treasures the opportunity to serve the parish in the liturgy and sacraments. As Director of Diaconate Formation, he says “I look forward with the graces of the Holy Spirit to help form future Deacons with the four pillars of Spiritual, Human, Academic and Pastoral formation to serve the people of God wherever they may be.”

Deacon Quail and his wife have two daughters, Jennifer and Lisa, and are grandparents of Lilian and John David. In his professional life, he enjoyed a long career at Sears Canada in Marketing and Buying and then an International Sourcing executive where he had the opportunity to travel the world. He currently owns and operates a print production and design business in North Toronto.

The following faculty members, who have served the seminary with great commitment will be transitioning to various assignments:

Fr. Robert Barringer, C.S.B will complete his term as President on June 30th, 2022. The seminary is very grateful for Fr. Barringer’s service to the seminary, particularly his outstanding contributions to the Toronto School of Theology (TST). Fr. Barringer’s faithful and joyful presence at seminary liturgies and social gatherings will also be missed. We wish him all the best in the future.

Fr. Charles Anang has completed his 22-year term as Director of Spiritual Formation for the seminary. Since 2000, Fr. Charles has played a significant role in strengthening the spiritual formation program at St Augustine’s Seminary. His responsibilities have included planning and booking speakers for retreats, recollections, and house meetings, as well as advising and supporting seminary spiritual directors. The seminary is truly grateful to Fr. Charles for his humble service, tireless work, and prayerful witness. Fr. Charles will continue to serve as formator, spiritual director, and professor of systematic theology.

Fr. Seamus Hogan has been appointed Pastor of Merciful Redeemer Parish, Mississauga. After the completion of his doctorate in Rome, Fr. Seamus joined the Formation Faculty of the seminary in 2013. His insights regarding priestly formation, Church history and spiritual direction have been greatly appreciated over the years and the parishioners of Merciful Redeemer Parish will be blessed to have Fr. Seamus as their shepherd.

Deacon Peter Lovrick continues as Associate Professor of Homiletics. As coordinator of the Permanent Diaconate formation program, he spent a great deal of time behind the scenes collaborating and contributing to its enrichment. We greatly value his contributions as a mentor to seminarians and PD candidates.

At the start of the Formation year, we held a formal event thanking and celebrating Fr. Barringer, Deacon Peter Lovrick and Fr. Hogan. May God continue to bless them for their commitment and service to St Augustine’s Seminary.
