Divina Eloquia talk by Sr. Maria Theotokos Adams, SSVM

We are pleased to share this recording and encourage you to register for future talks on our events page.

Please note that Sr. Theotokos’ microphone improves at the 2 minute 30 second timestamp.

This presentation examines the ways that liturgical time shapes and forms community identity. It looks at how liturgical exercise 'in time' was so important and formative for Christian identity, in contrast, and distinction with Creedal and other elements of the Jewish heritage that the Church brought into play in its own formation of the calendar.

Eusebius of Caesarea has a special role to play in this presentation, especially the way that he dealt with Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. Sr. Theotokos has a new proposal to make in this area of research which encompasses interesting ways of looking at time and community and the sacred.

Sr. Maria Theotokos Adams, SSVM, holds a doctorate in Church History from the Catholic University of America (Washington DC, 2022). Her dissertation on Eusebius of Caesarea explored the role of Pascha (Passover/Easter) as the centre of liturgical and historical time in his exegetical, apologetic and historiographic corpus.
