Leo the Great is best known for his contribution to the fourth ecumenical Council at Chalcedon. But his experience with synods is much broader and deeper.

These are some of the key concepts addressed by Msgr. Hans Feichtinger, on October 8, 2024, in his discussion entitled "What Are Synods For - An Account from Leo the Great." This talk was part of the ongoing series of Patristic Talks organized by the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology at St. Augustine’s Seminary.

Msgr. Feichtinger teaches Patristic Theology and Ancient Philosophy as an Adjunct Professor with the Ecclesiastical Faculty of Theology at St. Augustine’s Seminary. He explored Leo’s involvement in synods, with a particular emphasis on how this relates to his role as Roman Pope and to leadership in the church.

You can view Msgr. Feichtinger’s full talk below.
