Cardinal Tagle’s Conference on Eucharist and Priesthood

Through the initiative of Fr. John Elmer Abad, the Academic Dean, and the coordination of Fr. Charles Anang, Director of Spiritual Formation, St. Augustine’s Seminary invited his Eminence Luis Cardinal Tagle, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of the Peoples, to give a Zoom conference on Eucharist and Priesthood. Cardinal Tagle brought with him a wealth of experience as educator, rector of a seminary in the Philippines, and Archbishop of Manila before he was appointed by Pope Francis to lead one of the Congregations in Rome.

The Cardinal’s talk focused on four main points:
1) Priesthood as a (self) Sacrifice;
2) Eucharist as primarily God’s initiative;
3) The celebration of the Eucharist as the privileged moment of Christian Community; and
4) the dynamics of Eucharist as Gathering and Storytelling.

Sprinkled by his trademark jovial spirit and practical advice, the faculty and seminarians of SAS and the RMMS are thankful to Cardinal Tagle for reminding them of the joy of self-sacrifice for the sanctification of God’s people.

“I found the Cardinal Tagle inspiring, insightful and practical. His Eminence spoke about living the Eucharist as a baptized Christian, and the role of the priest as the servant of the sanctifying action of God in the Holy Mass,” James Cyfko, Seminarian and SASA President.
