AREA OF SPECIALIZATION
My primary area of specialization is medieval philosophy and theology, with a focus on late medieval controversies concerning human cognition and the relationship between cognition and human freedom. I am also interested in medieval discussions of the relationship between faith and reason. My research and teaching interests also extend to issues in contemporary applied ethics, especially biomedical ethics and the relationship between law and morality.
BIOGRAPHY
Since my graduate studies in Italy, I have been associated with a research centre specializing in the critical edition of the works of the Franciscan thinker John Duns Scotus (d. 1308). Upon completion of my first doctoral degree and a post-graduate master’s in medieval studies in Italy, I came to Canada to pursue further studies in medieval philosophy at the Centre for Medieval Studies (University of Toronto) and in the Collaborative Specialization in Ancient and Medieval Philosophy. I joined the formation faculty at St. Augustine’s in 2017.
