St. Augustine’s Seminary and the Pontifical Faculty of Theology will begin to offer a two-semester, 10 course Diploma Program in Philosophy. The Philosophy Program is designed to prepare students to study theology (cf., Veritatis Gaudium). Courses can be taken in-person and/or synchronously online. Now in its second year, the Licentiate Program in Patristics continues to draw interest from students in Canada and abroad. Among this year’s offerings include courses in the Cappadocians, Augustine, Leo the Great, Patristic Exegesis, and Rhetoric and Apologetics. Our President, Msgr. A. Robert Nusca, and Academic Dean, Fr. John Elmer Abad, attended a regional seminar organized by AVEPRO (the Holy See’s Agency for the Evaluation and Promotion of Quality in Ecclesiastical Universities and Faculties). The Seminar was held at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., from May 14-15, 2024. In addition to promoting excellence in theological education, the event encouraged institutional partnership and collaboration, bringing opportunities for growth, especially with regard to the sharing of resources and institutional expertise.

From May 27-29, 2024 the Pontifical Faculty of Theology at St. Augustine’s Seminary hosted the Annual Conference of the Canadian Society of Patristic Studies. The Conference drew approximately 45 Patristic scholars from more than ten countries, including Africa and Asia. Topics of the presented papers ranged from Justin Martyr, Patristic Exegesis, Augustine, Trauma and Therapy in Early Christian Literature, and indigenous African religious traditions. Msgr. A. Robert Nusca, President, and Fr. Edwin Gonsalves, Rector, greeted and thanked the participants. The Academic Staff, led by Theresa Kelly, Registrar and Director of Academic Services, provided and ensured excellent logistical support. Fr. John Elmer Abad, Academic Dean, served as one of the local coordinators of the Conference. He is currently the Vice-President of the CSPS.
